Ryan Hospital COVID-19 Guidelines

Throughout the region, veterinary hospitals continue to see an unprecedented level of emergency cases. While our Emergency Service is open and operating 24/7, to maintain excellence in patient safety, we may need to change to Diverting Status at any time. When we are diverting patients, we are only able to see critical, life-threatening cases and must recommend that stable cases seek care at another clinic in our area.

We appreciate all of the kindness and patience that our clients have shown us as we work to accommodate all patients in need of our help.

  • To Find our Emergency Diversion StatusPlease check our website to see whether we are Diverting Patients or Able to Accept Patients
  • Please call ahead (215-746-8911) to determine whether your pet needs to be seen and we will advise you on the best plan of action.  During diversion, in addition to critical cases, there are times that we can see urgent care cases that do not require inpatient hospitalization.

For All Clients & Visitors

COVID Safety Precautions

Starting March 13, 2023, masking will become optional at Ryan Hospital.

Please be advised that if you have clinical signs associated with COVID-19 (including congestion, sore throat, new cough, fever, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite), we require that you have a healthy person bring your pet to our hospital.

As always, please continue to adhere to the CDC guidelines for personal health and hygiene.

Continued Visitation Restrictions: Client visitation of hospitalized inpatients may be limited as Ryan Hospital must continue to prioritize staff attention for the medical care of hospitalized patients. You may discuss visitation with your patient care team, and they will facilitate a visit if feasible.

Triage for Emergency & Scheduled Cases

For Appointments

  • During normal business hours, a parking attendant will meet you at the entrance of Penn Vet's parking lot and direct you to a designated parking spot.
  • You may enter the building with your pet to register with our front desk team.
  • Once registration is complete, a veterinary student or nurse will greet you and escort you to an exam room to collect a history for your pet.
  • Your pet will then be examined by a clinician and your clinician will discuss findings, diagnostic decisions, and treatment options.
  • Once you have spoken to your clinician for discharge, you can continue to the front desk for check out.
  • Curbside care is an option at the client’s request. If you prefer to remain outside the hospital, please notify our parking attendants when you arrive, and they will alert the front desk. You may remain in your car or outside, and the medical care team will contact you by phone to collect a history and discuss your pets’ medical needs.
